Tobias Abendroth: Hi Thorsten, I’m looking forward to talking to you about project business. Could you please briefly explain what Newland offers to resellers who are interested in realising a project with you?
Thorsten Ley: Hi Tobi, I am also looking forward to talking to you about projects. Newland is the ideal project business partner for your resellers for many reasons. With our broad-based portfolio, we offer very attractively priced solutions that also keep up with the quality of the competition. We deliver extremely quickly and are very flexible when it comes to projects. We also have a strong focus on individual customer needs – »that’s not really possible« doesn’t exist with us. And, we stand for genuine appreciation in the cooperation with our resellers. Anyone who works with and for us on a project can rely on our loyalty and should also reap the rewards in the form of an attractive margin.
Tobias Abendroth: That sounds great! In which areas can resellers start a project with you?
Thorsten Ley: We are very broadly positioned in nearly all areas or environments in which you can imagine barcode scanning today. Our products cover requirements in warehousing, transport & logistics, industry & production, retail & POS, postal & delivery services, public institutions, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, as well as stationary & access control. Even larger rollouts are no problem for us.
Tobias Abendroth: What about the integration of Newland products?
Thorsten Ley: Our scanners, mobile computers and kiosk systems are easily integrated into existing systems and enable seamless connection to various business processes. We are currently experiencing high demand for devices with Android and touchscreen technology. These are characterised by their user-friendly interface, intuitive operation and high level of adaptability. They are ideal for a broad range of applications – from goods logistics and retail to healthcare and industrial manufacturing. By combining modern hardware and software solutions, they not only offer enhanced efficiency, but also a sustainable investment for companies looking to optimise their digital processes.
Tobias Abendroth: That will please our resellers. You just brought up the topic of »Android«. Tell me more about Newland’s Android strategy.
Thorsten Ley: Generally, our current Newland Android devices also come with the latest Android version, which is currently Android 13. There are a few exceptions that have been in the program for some time. These devices are sometimes delivered with Android 11 and do not receive any further version updates. However, our best-selling models and top sellers are currently all running Android 13 and therefore offer an up-to-date, powerful and secure operating system.
Android-based micro kiosk for large amounts of data
Tobias Abendroth: That sounds very promising. What about updates? How long does the support last?
Thorsten Ley: In the first quarter of 2026, we plan to introduce upgrades to Android 15 for all current Newland mobile computers and micro kiosks that are currently delivered with Android 13. Also, we will ensure continuous system maintenance by providing quarterly service updates and security patches for our current devices. These updates are efficiently managed via our mobile device management (MDM) software to ensure smooth deployment and installation.
A particular highlight in this context is Ndevor, which is pre-installed on all Newland Android devices, standard and free of charge. This powerful solution is a competitive alternative to established MDM systems and makes it much easier to manage updates and centralise device administration. Soon, it will also be possible to obtain updates via our new partner download portal, the development of which is currently in full swing.
In terms of update and security patch support for Android versions, we follow Google’s official operating system roadmap. Nevertheless, we also provide firmware updates beyond the regular Google support period, if necessary. This way, we ensure the longest possible service life for our devices.
Tobias Abendroth: Great – thank you. Let’s stay with the software: Which software tools does Newland offer, and which are already pre-installed in the devices?
Thorsten Ley: In addition to the already mentioned MDM software Ndevor, we offer a variety of other software solutions that optimise the use of our Newland Android devices.Basic applications, such as scanner settings or scan demo, are pre-installed on our devices, standard, and make it easier to configure and test scan functions. Plus, numerous other tools are available that may be installed directly on the device via the Newland Installer. These include, among others:Wi-Fi Advance – Advanced Wi-Fi settings, e.g. for frequency bands, roaming or reconnect strategiesKey Remap – Enables hardware keys to be re-assigned with customised functions or app shortcutsAdmin Tool (kiosk mode) – For defining authorised apps in user modeFloating Button – Quick access to frequently used functions, such as scanning, screenshots or switching the screen light on/offWhitelist Manager – For the targeted release or blocking of apps, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectionsBackup Recovery – Allows you to back up and restore app settings
Resellers will find a complete overview of our software solutions in our App User Guide, which is available to download from our website at www.newland-id.com.
Powerful mobile computer for versatile industrial applications
Tobias Abendroth: Do you also offer compatible third-party tools for a clean interaction with Newland hardware?
Thorsten Ley: In addition to Ndevor, common MDM systems, such as SOTI, are also supported. Third-party tools, such as Velocity or StayLinked, are also included in the NInstaller. And, for example, the DCApp is already pre-installed free of charge on the MT37.
Tobias Abendroth: What quantities are possible for projects?
Thorsten Ley: As many as the resellers want! You can request quantities as required.
Tobias Abendroth: Super! Speed is part of the Jarltech DNA. How quickly do you prepare quotations for projects?
Thorsten Ley: (Laughs) Speed is also part of our DNA! The moment a request for a project comes in, it is taken care of. We usually confirm the prices within one day. Of course, the key data must be clear to us. Meaning: Which devices are involved? What quantity? Who is the end customer, etc.? We have our own project request form for this.
Tobias Abendroth: Good to know. Okay, let’s say a customer successfully implements a project with Newland. What happens next? What special services does Newland offer?
Thorsten Ley: Much like Jarltech, we have a strong customer focus. We are always at our partners’ side and are constantly expanding our services. Among other things, we offer our customers various services and support, including customisation options, such as software adaptations and branding, as well as extended warranty options and, of course, technical support. For larger projects, we have demo devices so that interested customers can test the integration in advance.
Tobias Abendroth: Or interested resellers can come to the Jarltech headquarters in Usingen, Germany – and bring their customers, too. They can test the Newland products extensively in our Showroom and, if needed, arrange a training session with us on-site.
Thorsten Ley: And we are very happy to support you in this!
Tobias Abendroth: Tell me, Thorsten, How does Newland handle a service/RMA case?
Thorsten Ley: True to our motto »Scanning made simple«, we also keep it simple with our service. In case one of our devices needs to be sent in for repair, the process is kept simple, especially for your customers. After the RMA notification from your resellers to you, Jarltech opens an RMA case with all the details. Jarltech then communicates the resulting RMA number to its reseller, who sends the device to our central service centre in Culemborg (The Netherlands). If the device is still under warranty, we will repair or replace it free of charge. Even the return shipping is free for your customers. If the warranty has already expired, we will provide a cost estimate for the repair, whereby we will not charge for the analysis. It is then up to your customers to decide whether we should repair, return or recycle. »Service made simple«.
Tobias Abendroth: That sounds great. And what options do you offer our customers for maintenance contracts?
Thorsten Ley: When it comes to maintenance, we also offer our customers a few interesting options, especially in the area of our mobile computers or our Nwear wearable family. We set ourselves apart from the competition by offering a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty on all our Android devices. It is also possible to extend this warranty to 3 or 5 years. And for those who are more interested in full service coverage, our 3 and 5-year Comprehensive Service contracts are exactly what you need for maximum security in the future.
Tobias Abendroth: Can you tell me about a particularly successful project?
Thorsten Ley: (Laughs) The question is a bit tricky, as we at Newland strive for nothing other than to realise particularly successful projects with our partners. But to emphasise a project with a greater impact, there is the shop fitting for Deutsche Telekom. Here, Newland Nquire751s were and are installed in the shelves of every Telekom shop. Deutsche Telekom uses our customer information terminal to handle all of its price labelling for all products in the shop, which sometimes has to be updated several times a week. The electronic way of doing this was also the decisive factor for Deutsche Telekom, which is now also displaying commercial information on our devices in the second stage. A video of this success story is available on YouTube.
Tobias Abendroth: Great, Thorsten, I’ll have a look at it – thank you for talking to me.
