Baris Koc, Product Manager for Android Devices, talks about the Panasonic TOUGHBOOK Android line-up and services in an interview

Jarltech: The TOUGHBOOK traditionally has many Windows devices in its portfolio. What about Android?

Baris Koc: Panasonic has been developing Android devices since 2008. Initially for the consumer sector, and since 2013 we have also been offering Android TOUGHBOOK devices for the business sector with comprehensive support and essential services. In the TOUGHBOOK portfolio, we currently have three major devices, the Handheld N1, the 7" Tablet S1 and the 10" Tablet A3.

Jarltech: What makes Panasonic Android TOUGHBOOK devices stand out?

Baris Koc: The robustness of our Android TOUGHBOOK devices is known worldwide! TOUGHBOOK devices are designed for much lower failure rates than standard business products – ensuring less downtime, lower repair costs and reduced total cost of ownership. Android TOUGHBOOK devices have a replaceable battery with a longer life. Application-specific business features round out the package.

Jarltech: What distinguishes Panasonic TOUGHBOOK devices from products of other vendors?

Baris Koc: We are the robust market leader and an average of 4-5 years of use and long product life cycles speak for TOUGHBOOK devices. The high reliability reduces the effort in IT departments, since there are fewer failures. For companies, this means a better total cost of ownership. We pay enormous attention to user-friendly design and make individual configurations possible. For example, the TOUGHBOOK S1, which we developed for very mobile users, is enormously easy to grip. Its battery is easily replaced without having to remove a cover.

Jarltech: Does Panasonic only offer hardware?

Baris Koc: No, in addition to the hardware, we also offer a whole range of services and tools and provide various customising services. As a cost-effective, universal and customised software solution for TOUGHBOOK devices, I would like to highlight Omnia: TOUGHBOOK Omnia future-proofs the entire enterprise mobile fleet, no matter how diverse it is. Our system developers design customised applications for this in the shortest possible time, which may be used seamlessly on multiple devices. For this purpose, we offer COMPASS, a B2B management and deployment portfolio with complete protection for Android TOUGHBOOK devices. COMPASS stands for COMPlete Android Services and Security.

Jarltech: What is included in COMPASS?

Baris Koc: COMPASS offers complete protection for Android TOUGHBOOK devices. For businesses, this means less disruption in case of accidental damage. No unexpected repair costs after the warranty period has expired, as well as reduced downtime with a fast total turnaround time of 96 hours for repairs. COMPASS also includes regular Android long-term security patches (COMPASS Security Premium) for the lifetime of the device.

Jarltech: That sounds like excellent service! Last question: Which TOUGHBOOK is your favourite?

Baris Koc: The TOUGHBOOK S1. Simply because it combines the mobility of the N1 with the flexibility of the A3.

Jarltech: Dear Mr. Koc, thank you very much for the interview!

Baris Koc: Thank you!
