Tobias Abendroth, Regional Sales Manager DACH at Jarltech Europe GmbH, spoke to Jörk Schüßler, Marketing Director EMEA at Citizen Systems Europe, about the importance of a self-protective and disinfectant-ready printer housing in the hospitality industry.
At a time when self-service is becoming more popular and more people are using the same devices, companies are increasingly prioritising higher hygiene standards when selecting their equipment. There is also a desire for greater efficiency and sustainability. Citizen‘s CL-H300SV and CT-E601 meet these requirements.
Tobias Abendroth: Hello Jörk, I’m delighted that you’re here with us today to answer our questions. I would like to talk to you about two printers, the CL-H300SV and the CT-E601. What exactly sets these printers apart? Why should hospitality customers choose them?
Jörk Schüßler: Hello Tobias, I’m happy to be here. In the hospitality industry, food is the focus and cleanliness is paramount. The CL-H300SV and the CT-E601 have an innovative self-protecting and disinfectable housing. As a result, they offer a major plus in terms of hygiene and protection for customers and staff in the printing environment.
The special housing surface of the CL-H300SV and CT-E601 suppresses germs and bacteria, preventing them from accumulating and multiplying on the printers in the first place.
For additional hygiene, the printers can be cleaned with standard disinfectants (ethanol 70 %, IPA (isopropyl alcohol) 70 %, Oxydol 3 %, sodium hypochlorite solution 0.05 %), making it even easier and more effective to remove contaminants. The housing itself easily withstands the aggressive chemicals and also fulfils all ISO 22196 specifications, which is why the printers are permitted to bear the SIAA mark.
With a print speed of up to 350 mm per second, the CT-E601 is also one of the fastest POS printers in our range. It offers many functions for reliable printing and has numerous interface options, including Bluetooth (Apple and Android compatible).
This combination of hygiene, efficiency and reliability in a consistent design makes both printers ideal for restaurants, cafes and other hospitality environments.
Tobias Abendroth: The self-protecting housing and the »disinfectant-ready« label sound very interesting. What exactly do these two features mean and how do they work?
Jörk Schüßler: We are also very proud of this. Disinfectant-ready means that the printers may be cleaned with standard cleaning agents and disinfectants. Such agents usually contain aggressive chemicals that can damage the devices. However, this does not affect the functionality of the new printers.
Thanks to their antibacterial housing, the printers are also bacteria-repellent. This prevents germs from settling in the first place and eliminates them. The technology in the housing and the printer bear the SIAA mark in accordance with ISO 22196. This means that they effectively prevent the growth of bacteria and meet the highest industry standards.
Tobias Abendroth: Why are self-protecting housings and disinfectability so important to the hospitality industry?
Jörk Schüßler: Bacteria are omnipresent. On average, up to 10 million bacteria live on one square centimetre of human skin. American researchers have identified over 4,700 species of bacteria that colonise the palms of our hands. Human hands are therefore a veritable biotope for countless species of bacteria.
These bacteria on the hands are generally harmless for healthy people. Nevertheless, pathogens can of course also be transmitted via the hands. Flu and cold viruses, for example, are easily spread through direct hand contact or via banisters and door handles.
In hygienic environments such as in the catering and healthcare sectors, the aim is therefore to keep bacteria to a minimum and prevent transmission.
Tobias Abendroth: And how has the market responded? How many have already chosen a Citizen printer with a self-protective housing? Why should there be more?
Jörk Schüßler: The response on the market has been very positive. Many companies recognise the added value of an disinfectant-ready printer with self-protective housing, especially in areas where hygiene is important, such as healthcare, hospitality or retail. Since the introduction of our self-protective housing, many customers have already opted for a Citizen printer with this technology. We are seeing an increase in demand as awareness of hygiene and cleanliness in the workplace grows.
Tobias Abendroth: You just mentioned retail. Apart from the hospitality industry, which other sectors benefit from the self-protective housing of the CL-H300SV and the CT-E601?
Jörk Schüßler: The CL-H300SV and the CT-E601 are suitable for use in many areas. In addition to the hospitality industry, the printers are also ideal for use in healthcare, retail, museums or amusement parks as well as petrol stations and convenience shops
The printers are beneficial wherever people meet frequently and cleanliness is a key issue. In any busy environment, such as supermarkets, restaurants or pharmacies, where printers are used by several people, the antibacterial properties help to improve hygiene.
Tobias Abendroth: Does Citizen have any other printers with a self-protective housing in its portfolio? Are more printers planned?
Jörk Schüßler: Another printer model with a self-protective housing is the CT-E301. It also withstands the use of aggressive chemicals in cleaning agents, ensuring consistently high print quality.
As it is our aim to integrate innovative technologies into our products and thus further promote the growth of our customers, Citizen is constantly innovating its printing models. New models are therefore always in the pipeline.
Tobias Abendroth: That sounds very promising. How does Citizen see the future market for printers in hygienic environments such as hospitals? What other trends will there be? What future trends do the CL-H300SV and CT-E601 already meet?
Jörk Schüßler: Citizen sees the future market for printers in the hospital sector as fast-growing and innovation-driven. The increasing focus on hygiene and patient safety, also in other areas, will further increase the demand for specialised solutions. Printers play an important role in hospitals, whether for printing patient wristbands, medicine labels or other important documents. Aspects such as hygiene, reliability and ease of use are becoming increasingly important. Citizen is already well positioned to fulfil these requirements with the CL-H300SV and the CT-E601.
Future trends in the hospital sector include the increased integration of IoT and intelligent technologies, the automation of processes to prevent errors and the growing importance of hygiene technologies. The trend towards greater sustainability through the use of energy-efficient and resource-saving devices is also becoming increasingly important in the hospital environment.
The CL-H300SV and the CT-E601 meet some of these future trends today. With their self-protecting and disinfectable housing, they offer an innovative solution for hygiene requirements that are of central importance in hospitals. In addition, both printer models are extremely user-friendly, reliable and designed to integrate seamlessly into existing infrastructures. As a result, they support the trend towards digitalisation and process optimisation.
Tobias Abendroth: Jörk, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions about the self-ptotective and disinfectant-ready housing of the CL-H300SV and CT-E601 and the benefits for the hospitality and other industries. This has certainly helped many people who are interested in the printers.
